by Shore News Network

LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — A 50-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the death of a man in St. Mary’s County, authorities said. Simone Stewart, of Lexington Park, is facing multiple charges, including second-degree murder, first-degree assault, homicide by motor vehicle, and driving under the influence.

The victim, identified as Demeatrum Scarborough, 53, also of Lexington Park, died on Tuesday at MedStar Washington Hospital, where he was being treated after being struck by a vehicle two days earlier. Police said the incident occurred shortly before 1 p.m. on Oct. 7, when troopers responded to reports of a pedestrian hit by a Chevrolet Suburban at the intersection of Spring Valley Drive and Valley Court.

According to a preliminary investigation, Stewart was driving the Suburban when the incident took place. Authorities believe she and Scarborough, who were involved in an ongoing relationship, had an alleged altercation prior to the event.

Stewart is currently being held at the St. Mary’s Detention Center, awaiting a court appearance. The decision to charge her followed evidence collection and consultations with the St. Mary’s County State’s Attorney.

The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit is leading the investigation, with support from various state police divisions and the St. Mary’s County State’s Attorney’s Office. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the case to contact homicide investigators.
