Police hunt suspect accused of ambushing 36-year-old woman inside residential building before fleeing on foot

BRONX, N.Y. — A woman was allegedly dragged into an elevator and attacked inside a Bronx building during a terrifying attempted rape early Saturday morning, according to the NYPD.

Police said the attack happened around 4 a.m. May 9 near East 151st Street and Melrose Avenue.

Investigators said a 36-year-old woman was inside the building when an unidentified man allegedly pulled her into an elevator, pulled down her pants and attempted to sexually assault her.

Authorities said the suspect fled the scene on foot shortly after the attack.

The woman’s condition was not immediately released.

Police have not released a description of the suspect.

The NYPD is asking anyone with information about the incident to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
