Man arrested in deadly Chesapeake Avenue shooting of 50-year-old woman
Baltimore, MD – A Howard County man has been arrested and charged in the fatal shooting of a woman earlier this month in Baltimore’s Southern District, police confirmed.
Emanuel Thomas, 34, was taken into custody on December 26 in the 1200 block of East Preston Street. He is accused in the December 13 killing of 50-year-old Shanelle Cawthorne, who was found shot to death in the 800 block of Chesapeake Avenue around 1:13 a.m.
Responding officers had arrived to find Cawthorne suffering from a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The case remained under investigation for nearly two weeks before Warrant Apprehension detectives located and arrested Thomas.

Thomas was transported to the Central Booking Intake Facility, where he was charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and multiple handgun-related offenses.
Police have not disclosed a motive or whether Thomas and the victim were known to each other. The investigation remains active.
