Woman Shot and Killed In Failed Apparent Murder Suicide in Schenectady

SCHENECTADY, NY — A tragic incident occurred on the evening of Wednesday, July 31, at approximately 8:21 PM, when Schenectady Police responded to a reported shooting at 11 Charles Street.

Upon arrival, officers discovered 30-year-old Ericka R. Brown, a resident of the address, deceased from a gunshot wound to the head.

In the same location, a man in his 40s was found with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and is currently under police custody.

Initial findings suggest that the two individuals were acquainted prior to the incident.

Five children were also found inside the home unharmed; three of them are Ms. Brown’s.

The children are currently being cared for by family members.

As the investigation continues, no charges have been filed yet. The Schenectady Police Department is urging anyone with information to contact their Tips Line at 518-788-6566. Updates will be provided as more details become available.
