20-year-old man killed in Northeast DC shooting as police hunt for gunman

WASHINGTON, DC — A 20-year-old man died after being shot Monday evening on a Northeast Washington street, prompting a homicide investigation as detectives work to identify whoever pulled the trigger.

The shooting happened May 11 around 6:28 p.m. in the 3700 block of Hayes Street Northeast, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Officers responding to reports of gunfire found an adult man suffering from a gunshot wound at the scene.

DC Fire and EMS crews rushed the victim to a nearby hospital, but despite lifesaving efforts, he was later pronounced dead.

Police identified the victim Tuesday as 20-year-old Andrew Williams of Northeast Washington.

Investigators have not released information about a possible suspect or motive as the case remains under active investigation.

Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or has information connected to the homicide to come forward.
