Teen fatally shot in Baltimore hours before 22-year-old suspect is arrested
Baltimore, MD – The sun had barely set in South Baltimore when gunfire rang out on Harman Avenue, ending the life of a teenager and sparking a homicide investigation that led to an arrest within hours.
Nineteen-year-old Davon Smallwood was shot and killed just after 5 p.m. on Tuesday in the 1900 block of Harman Avenue. By the end of the night, 22-year-old Devin Shadle was in police custody, arrested a few miles away in the 2500 block of Washington Boulevard.
Police say Shadle was identified as the suspected shooter shortly after the deadly incident. Officers located and detained him on the same evening. He was transported to the Central Booking and Intake Facility, where he was formally charged with murder.

The killing marked another act of deadly violence in the city’s Southern District, an area that has seen repeated gunfire in recent months. Smallwood was pronounced dead at the scene, and officials say he suffered at least one gunshot wound. His identity was confirmed shortly after notification of his family.
Investigators have not disclosed a possible motive or whether the victim and suspect knew each other prior to the shooting. The case remains under active investigation.
Residents in the area reported hearing several shots and then screams, with some describing a brief argument beforehand. The block where the shooting occurred has been the site of increased police patrols in recent weeks due to a rise in calls related to gun violence.
Shadle remains in custody without bail and is scheduled to appear before a judge for a bail review hearing later this week.
