Young Monmouth Residents Disgusted, Shocked Over Mikie Sherrill’s Attack on Murdered Man

Mikie Sherrill

Monmouth County, NJ – The Monmouth County Young Republicans released a lengthy statement denouncing Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill after her response to the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, accusing her of “verbally trashing” a murder victim and using the tragedy for political gain.

In their release, the group said they were “disgusted” by Sherrill’s description of Kirk as holding “vile dissenting views” and “racist, anti-American views,” calling the comments “utterly deplorable.” They emphasized that Kirk, described as a father and husband, was killed less than a week before her remarks. “This is how an elected representative chooses to reflect on it,” the statement read.

The Young Republicans further criticized Sherrill for what they said was a contradiction between her rhetoric and her actions. While condemning Kirk’s views, she also voted in favor of a resolution honoring him in the House of Representatives. “The even sadder part is that she voted ‘yes’ for the resolution in question, which under her logic, means she voted in the affirmative to honor a ‘racist,’ ‘anti-American,’ who had ‘vile dissenting views,’” the statement said.

The group questioned Sherrill’s claims of moderation, arguing her remarks showed no interest in lowering political tensions. “Congresswoman Sherrill wants to lead 9.5 million New Jerseyans, what in this statement tells you she is a leader or unifier?” they asked.

They also raised doubts about her candidacy for governor, stating: “We struggle to decide which is worse, the thought that a candidate for Governor truly believes it is ok to verbally trash a husband murdered in front of millions of Americans less than a week after he was killed or the thought that she decided it was politically expedient and was willing to stoop to that level for political benefit.”

“Charlie Kirk was advocating for a Christian nationalist government and to roll back the rights of women and Black people — this flies in the face of every value I hold dear and that I fight for. But the Constitution protects free speech, even for those I vehemently oppose.

“Meanwhile, President Trump has and continues to define hypocrisy at every turn. On one hand, he denounced Kirk’s politically motivated killing, while on the other hand, is instigating a witch hunt worthy of Joseph McCarthy to shut down the free speech rights of anyone who disagrees with Kirk’s racist, anti-American views,” Sherrill said from her official office as a congresswoman.

The statement concluded by contrasting Sherrill with Kirk, portraying him as a principled figure while accusing her of shifting positions for convenience. “The difference between Charlie Kirk and Mikie Sherrill is Charlie Kirk held convictions that were core to who he was while Mikie Sherrill will always cave to what she thinks is beneficial at that current moment,” they wrote.

The Monmouth County Young Republicans said they take comfort in believing that Kirk’s influence on millions of Americans will outlast Sherrill’s political reach. “Do you know anyone who has ever uttered the words ‘Mikie Sherrill inspired me to get involved in making our nation better?’ Of course not,” the group stated.
