Man who robbed Lakes Beverage jumped into Long Lake Channel to hide from deputies

GREEN, OH – On December 2, 2020, at approximately 5:00 a.m., The Summit County Sheriff’s Office responded to Lakes Beverage located on South Main Street in the City of Green for a reported business alarm. The front door of the business had been forced open and suspects had gained entry into the store. The suspects fled in a red vehicle. A sheriff’s deputy observed the vehicle fleeing the scene and attempted to stop the vehicle.
The suspect vehicle fled and the suspects crashed the vehicle on Peach Drive in Coventry Township. All four occupants of the vehicle fled on foot.
One suspect jumped into the Long Lake Channel in an attempt to flee from the deputy.
He was apprehended after he exited the water. The suspect was identified as Antoine D. Sandford, age 20 of Cleveland. Sandford was treated on scene by Coventry Fire and transported to Akron City Hospital for further treatment. Sandford was arrested and charged with Breaking and Entering (F-5).
The investigation is on-going and further charges are pending the outcome of the investigation. Anyone with information regarding the incident and/or the identities of the other 3 suspects should contact the Summit County Sheriff’s Office at 330-643-2147.
