DOVER, Del. – An 18-year-old man was shot and killed Friday night outside a CAVA restaurant in Dover, prompting a homicide investigation and a public appeal for witnesses and surveillance video.

Dover Police said officers received multiple calls reporting gunfire at approximately 9:47 p.m. and responded to the restaurant at 1037 North DuPont Highway. Officers found Foster Trader of Dover on the sidewalk in front of CAVA suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Officers Tried to Save Foster Trader After Shooting

Officers immediately began providing emergency medical assistance to Trader while additional medical personnel responded, according to police.

“Responding officers located 18-year-old Foster Trader of Dover on the sidewalk in front of CAVA suffering from multiple gunshot wounds,” the department said.

Despite the lifesaving efforts, Trader was pronounced dead at approximately 10:04 p.m., about 17 minutes after police received the first reports of gunfire.

Dover Police secured the area as detectives and additional personnel arrived to process the scene and gather evidence. Investigators recovered multiple spent shell casings from the area.

Police said detectives are also reviewing other available evidence as they attempt to determine what happened before the shooting and who was responsible.

No Arrests Made as Dover Police Investigate

The department’s Criminal Investigations Unit is handling the shooting as a homicide. Police had not identified a suspect or announced any arrests when the department released its initial account.

“At this time, no arrests have been made, and investigators are continuing to work to determine what led to this incident,” Dover Police said.

Investigators also said they did not have a suspect description or information about a possible suspect vehicle available for release.

Authorities have not publicly identified a motive or said whether Trader knew the person who shot him. The circumstances leading up to the gunfire remain under investigation.

Detectives Ask Witnesses for Information

Police are asking anyone who was near the restaurant Friday night to contact investigators, particularly people who witnessed suspicious activity or may have surveillance footage that captured something connected to the shooting.

“We need the public’s help,” Dover Police said. “If you were in the area around the time of the shooting, witnessed anything suspicious, or have other information that may assist investigators, please contact detectives at 302-736-7111.”

Foster Trader was 18 years old and lived in Dover.
