2-Alarm Fire Rips Through Stamford Hotel Roof, Damages 6 Rooms at Red Carpet Inn

May 25, 2026

STAMFORD, Conn. — A fast-moving fire tore through the roof area of a Stamford hotel Monday morning, forcing evacuations and prompting a second alarm response after flames spread beyond a guest room at the Red Carpet Inn on East Main Street.

Firefighters arrived at the hotel at 1209 E. Main Street within minutes of the 9:13 a.m. emergency call and found heavy smoke pouring from the rear of the building’s second floor, according to the Stamford Fire Department. Crews traced the fire to room 235, where flames had already pushed into the ceiling and roof structure.

Although the room where the fire started was unoccupied, firefighters evacuated guests from nearby second-floor rooms as conditions worsened inside the building.

Roof Fire Triggers Larger Emergency Response

Engine 6, responding from the Glenbrook firehouse, reached the scene at 9:15 a.m. and reported active fire extension into the roof area.

Because of the hotel’s size and the number of occupants inside, command officers escalated the response to a second alarm. Firefighters stretched multiple hose lines through the building while crews on the roof performed vertical ventilation operations to release heat and smoke and stop the fire from spreading further.

The Stamford Fire Department said the fire was brought under control at 9:49 a.m., roughly 35 minutes after the initial emergency call.

A total of 40 Stamford Fire Department personnel responded, including five engine companies, two ladder companies, one rescue company, two deputy chiefs and support staff from the department’s Administrative, Training and Mechanical divisions.
