5-year-old shot in Los Angeles drive-by gang-related shooting

LOS ANGELES, CA -A 5-year-old child is recovering in the hospital after being shot by a gang member who yelled, “Puente”, according to the child’s family.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department investigators from the Operation Safe Streets Bureau (O.S.S.) are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting of a male Hispanic juvenile (age 5). The incident occurred on the 14200 block of Nelson Avenue in the City of La Puente on Wednesday, January 13, 2021, at approximately 9:16 pm.

Deputies assigned to Industry Sheriff’s Station responded to the location regarding a gunshot victim call. Upon arrival, deputies learned that a man and his wife were exiting their car when a dark-colored sedan pulled up alongside them. Someone inside the sedan yelled, “Puente” then fired multiple shots from a firearm in their direction. At which point the victim suffered a gunshot wound to his upper right thigh. The victim’s parents then transported the child to a local hospital where he was listed in stable condition. The child was treated for his wound and released but will require future medical care.
