HOUSTON, TX – A Central Patrol Division officer observed a vehicle with stolen license plates in the 5100 block of Live Oak Street. Before approaching, officers confirmed that the gray Toyota Camry did in fact have a license plate that had been reported stolen.
Before the officer could exit the patrol car, the suspect drove the car out of the parking lot. The officer activated the emergency lights and siren to conduct a traffic stop, but the suspect continued to evade in the vehicle.
The pursuit continued onto the main lanes of Highway 288 and onto IH 69. The suspect exited Kirby and hit a curb causing his front passenger side tire to go flat. He continued to flee from officers and, at one point, struck another motorist. The suspect refused to stop and continued, eventually hitting another vehicle from behind on Greenbriar Drive. The suspect exited the gray sedan and evaded officers on foot running south on Greenbriar Drive and then onto Bissonnet Street. Officers noted that the suspect had a black firearm in his hand and proceeded with caution.
The suspect ran through the backyard of a residence and was cut off by an officer, who drew his weapon and ordered the suspect to the ground. At this point, the suspect did not have anything in his hands, but he would not comply and advanced on the officer.
Officers from the South Central Patrol Division arrived and the suspect turned his back on the officers. Believing the suspect to still be in possession of a firearm, one officer discharged his Conducted Energy Device (taser) and the suspect fell to the ground where officers were able to take him into custody without further incident. A firearm was found in the suspect’s possession.
The gray Camry the suspect had been driving had stolen license plates and the vehicle itself had been reported stolen out of Fort Bend County. The firearm the suspect had was also stolen. Officers completed reports for the two other victims involved in crashes with the suspect during the pursuit.
The suspect was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, evading arrest in a motor vehicle, and unlawful carrying of a weapon. The suspect had a felony warrant out of Harris County for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The suspect has more than a dozen arrests and has 10 cases pending including five felonies. Great collaborative effort by Central and South Central Patrol Division officers to arrest this suspect.
