PORTLAND, OR – More than four months after being struck by a car in the Portsmouth Neighborhood, a three-year-old boy has died.

On Saturday, January 23, 2021, Portland Police traffic crash investigators were notified that the child passed away overnight. The investigation into the crash determined that there was no cause to charge the driver of the car with a crime.

On September 2nd, 2020 at approximately 6:07 p.m., North Precinct officers responded to the 4900 block of North Fessenden Street on reports of an injury accident. Officers arrived at the location and learned a vehicle traveling westbound on North Fessenden Street just west of Fiske Avenue, struck two children. The children were playing nearby when they ran in between two parked vehicles on North Fessenden Street and into traffic. One of the children, a 3-year-old, suffered life threatening injuries. The child was transported to an area hospital by ambulance. The child’s medical status is unknown at this time. The other child, was treated at the scene. The Major Crash Team (MCT) was activated and leading the investigation.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene of the crash and was cooperative with investigators. Driver speed and impairment do not seem to play a role in the crash.

No additional information is available at this time. The PIO is not responding to the scene.
