Democrat Laurie Huryk Not Running for Re-election in Toms River

Toms River, NJ – Toms River Democrat Laurie Huryk will not be running for re-election in 2021. In 2017, Huryk, a Democrat won an election in Toms River when she ran on an “Anti-Lakewood Style Development” platform. In recent months however, Huryk aligned with Toms River Mayor Mo Hill and championed Hill’s plan to change the town’s house of worship zoning requirement from ten to two acres.

“My original goal was to bring a level head to the table and be able to collaborate in a nonpartisan way,” she said. “”In the four years that I have been there, we really have done quite well working together,” Huryk said. “We really all want what’s best for the town.”


In 2017, Huryk ran a vicious campaign against Republicans and “Lakewood Developers“. She accused her opponent Lou Gallipoli of being in bed with Orthodox Jewish Lakewood developers with misleading mailers, even creating a fake newspaper to mislead the townspeople of Toms River. Huryk recently voted to approve Mo Hill’s zoning change.

Her running mate Terrance Turnbach, a criminal defense attorney whose firm specializes in representing child sexual offenders, rapists and human traffickers has not yet announced whether or not he’s running for re-election.

The Democrat club in Toms River has not yet announced their candidates for office in 2021.
