DAYTONA BEACH, FL – Over half a kilo’s worth of various kinds of illegal drugs – including MDMA, cocaine, heroin, oxycodone and cannabis – is now off the streets of Daytona Beach thanks to investigations recently completed by the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) of the Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD).

Three men face charges following raids at 426 North Caroline Street on March 24, 2021 and 528 Division Street on April 1, 2021. See below for a summary of each case.

426 North Caroline Street (March 24, 2021)

This investigation began when SIU received numerous complaints from the public about drug deals taking place inside an apartment at this location.

Detectives entered that apartment at 12:23 p.m. on March 24, 2021, soon after a search warrant to do so was signed by a Volusia County judge.

Officers discovered just over 100 grams of cocaine inside the apartment along with 4.6 grams of oxycodone and over $4,000 in United States currency.  SIU also arrested two men found inside the apartment at the time of the raid, both Daytona Beach residents.  A search uncovered three EBT cards inside the wallet of one of those men, none of which were legally registered in his name. It also uncovered one of the men actively cooking crack cocaine inside the kitchen.

The names and charges of the men who were arrested are listed below.

Maurice L. Fields (32 years old): Trafficking in cocaine (felony), Destroy/tamper with physical evidence (felony), Possession of oxycodone (felony), Lease/rent structure to traffic narcotics felony)

Devin T. Favors (32 years old): Possession of cocaine with intent to sell (felony), Destroy/tamper with physical evidence (felony), Unlawful possession of personal identification information (felony – three counts)

528 Division Street (April 1, 2021)

This investigation also began when SIU received numerous complaints from the public about drug deals taking place inside this residence.

SIU officers and members of DBPD’s Special Weapons & Tactics (SWAT) entered the home around 5:45 a.m. on April 1, 2020 after obtaining a search warrant from a Volusia County judge.

One of the residents of that home – 24-year-old Aaron T. Thomas – was taken into custody and charged with trafficking in three different kinds of drugs (MDMA, heroin and fentanyl) along with possession of cocaine and cannabis, all felonies. He’s also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Officers found over 600 grams of MDMA – also known as “Molly” or “Ecstasy” – in the home as well as over 60 grams of cannabis, nearly 20 grams of heroin/fentanyl and over 15 grams of cocaine. Two firearms were also seized.
