PERKINS, OH – Police in Perkins Township say a rumor circulating on social media regarding a kidnapping and firearm at the local Target was completely false

“We recently were made aware of an incident that was posted on social media involving the alleged kidnapping and firearm being brandished at the Target located in Perkins Township,” Perkins police said. “Our investigation has determined that this post, that was heavily shared, WAS NOT ACCURATE.”

The department said no kids were abducted and no firearm was brandished. There was also information in the post that the police were called and stated that there was recent reports of 2 males trying to kidnap kids and young women.

This information is not accurate as well.

“This post has caused concern from the public, Target, and from the police department due to the false information being spread. This investigation is still underway with the possibility of criminal charges to follow for the person that spread this false information. Please take a minute and make sure when posting information to social media that it is accurate and true,” police said.
