Suspect firing at Phoenix police officers shot and arrested

PHOENIX, AZ – On June 29 at about 10:15 p.m., Phoenix Police received a burglary alarm call near 9th Avenue and Turney Avenue. Officers found the front door ajar. Officers pushed the door open and announced their presence. The officers did not get a response and they continued to knock and announce their presence. After several minutes, a man was seen walking toward them armed with a gun. The man pointed the gun at officers and the officers told him to drop the gun. The man then shot at officers and the officers returned fire. The man was injured, and dropped the gun. First aid was given, and he was taken to a nearby hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries. During the investigation officers learned that the man was the homeowner.
