TRENTON, NJ – Governor Phil Murphy today warned that New Jersey could slip back into the state it was back in April as COVID-19 cases spiked during the second wave of the virus.
“The trends we are seeing in the past several days suggests we are not done seeing these numbers continue to rise,” Murphy said. “We are relatively hopeful that we will not return to where we were even a couple of months ago.”
Murphy said the state cannot return to April figures where there were 2,400 hospitalizations and 4,000 new cases each day.
“Unless more of you who have not been vaccinated and step up and receive your doses, these risks will remain,” Murphy said.
As of today, 76% of the state’s vaccination eligible population has received at least their first dose of the vaccine.
On Monday, the state’s rate of transmission was 1.44, .44 over the threshold that allows for the governor to reimplement face mask mandates, social distancing, and business closures.
