Dad of unruly kids return to pool with knife, bat to attack teen lifeguards who asked them to leave

WORCESTER, MA – On July 28th 2021 at about 5:35 PM, Worcester Police officers were dispatched to the Lincoln Village pool house at 134 Country Club Blvd for a report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers spoke with witnesses and determined that a group of youth were not listening to the lifeguards on the scene and were asked to leave.

The father of the youth walked into the pool house where the lifeguards were gathered and began verbally arguing with them. Then the male, identified as Carlos Betancourt, forty-two-year-old of Liberty St, took out a knife, and swung it at a seventeen-year-old male lifeguard.

The lifeguard jumped back and was not touched by the knife. Mr. Betancourt went back to a vehicle in the parking lot, grabbed a baseball bat, and returned to the pool house. He swung the bat at a fifteen-year-old female lifeguard, but missed.

Next, he used the bat to smash the front glass door of the pool house and fled the scene


.After a brief search, Mr. Betancourt was located at a Liberty St address and was placed under arrest. He is charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Knife,) Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Bat) and Vandalism. He will be arraigned in court.
