AKRON, OH – Rex Gordon Miller Jr. has been sought by the Portage County Sheriff’s Office for approximately one week as we have been following his whereabouts in an attempt to arrest him on felony warrants including: Felonious Assault on a Peace Officer with a Deadly Weapon, Probation Violation, Larceny, Aggravated Possession of Drugs (x2), and Obstructing Justice. This subject was reported to be carrying a firearm with the intention of killing a potential female victim. It is also expected that further charges may be sought against Miller for Failure to Comply with the Order of a Police Officer and Burglary.

Earlier this week, Portage County deputies attempted to serve the warrant when the suspect struck one of our deputies with his vehicle while fleeing the scene. We are happy to report that our officer was treated at the hospital and released with minor injuries.

Portage County Sheriff’s Office along with the assistance of Ravenna PD worked tirelessly around the clock to track down the subject until this morning where he was pursued into a home in Akron, OH where the suspect barricaded himself inside. With the knowledge that the suspect was armed and dangerous, the Akron SWAT Team was activated and responded to the scene. After numerous hours and attempts to call the suspect out of the home to surrender, a decision was made to launch teargas through the windows. In a short time after, the suspect jumped out of a window and was immediately apprehended by the SWAT officers on the perimeter.
