Arrested made in weekend shooting in Stuart

On Sunday, 09/12/2021, Stuart Police received a call regarding a gunshot wound victim that was brought to the emergency room. The victim was later airlifted to Lawnwood Regional Medical Trauma Center.

The victim was driving by Martin Luther King Jr. Park in East Stuart when the victim was flagged down by the suspect, Ri-ahj Thomas. Thomas approached the victim and started an argument. The victim started to drive away to avoid the confrontation but Thomas fired several rounds into the vehicle with a handgun striking the victim.

On Wednesday afternoon, Stuart Police Detectives spotted Thomas in the East Stuart area. Thomas ran from the Detectives and was later apprehended with the assistance of the Martin County Sheriff Office K-9 Units.


Thomas was charged with Attempted 1st Degree Homicide and Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon. He is being held at Martin County Jail with no bond.
