Chowchilla police serious about new no parking rule at Fig Tree Plaza

CHOWCHILLA, CA – The Chowchilla police department is serious about illegal parking at the Fig Tree Plaza on E. Robertson Boulevard.

Below is a statement released by the department:

To clear up confusion for those that choose to stop and “get out of their car for a just a second” you are subject to a citation for doing that, even if someone is sitting in the vehicle.

To avoid a citation please park legally. Our biggest complaint at this time is at the Bank of America ATM and the shops nearest to it on E. Robertson Blvd.

Chowchilla Municipal Code

10.28.130 reads in part – Color of curb marking indicates stopping and parking restrictions.

A. The city administrator is authorized, subject to the provisions and limitations of this title, to place, and when required herein shall place, the following curb markings to indicate parking or standing regulations, and said curb markings shall have the meanings as set forth in this section.

1. Red shall mean no stopping, standing or parking at any time except as permitted by the Vehicle Code, and except that a bus may stop in a red zone marked or signed as a bus zone.

California Vehicle Code reads in part.

VEH§ 22500. ​ Prohibited Stopping, Standing, or Parking

A person shall not stop, park, or leave standing any vehicle whether attended or unattended, except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance with the directions of a peace officer or official traffic control device, in any of the following places:

(c)​Between a safety zone and the adjacent right-hand curb or within the area between the zone and the curb as may be indicated by a sign or red paint on the curb, which sign or paint was erected or placed by local authorities pursuant to an ordinance.
