Teen girl arrested for stabbing murder of Bronx man in Carteret

CARTERET, NJ – Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Chief Dennis McFadden of the Carteret Police Department announced today that a juvenile has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal stabbing of a man known to her.

On November 3, 2021, at approximately 9:50 P.M., authorities responded to a residence on Roosevelt Avenue following the report of a stabbing. Upon their arrival, officers located Zion Barton, 18, of the Bronx

who had sustained a stab wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment where he was pronounced dead.


An investigation by Detective Anthony Ramos of the Carteret Police Department and Detective Sean Sullivan of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined a fifteen-year-old female stabbed the victim.

The juvenile was arrested and charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. The juvenile is detained pending a preliminary hearing in Superior Court.

At present, the murder does not appear to be a random act and the juvenile and victim were acquainted. The investigation is active and continuing.
