Helicopter that illegally landed in Crown Heights, chased to Lakewood by NYPD air unit

LAKEWOOD, NJ – A helicopter that landed illegally, several times in a Crown Heights, New York City neighborhood on Thursday ended at the Lakewood Township Municipal airport in Ocean County, New Jersey.

Police said the low flying helicopter was spotted by residents and neighbors in Brooklyn before landing in a vacant lot near Troy and Carroll. The NYPD was notified by 9-1-1 calls at around 12:30.

The New York Post reported the helicopter landed twice before leaving the area, heading south. That’s when a New York City Police Department chopper began pursuit, following the pilot and the helicopter to Lakewood Township.


The NYPD and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the incident. NYPD did not say whether or not any citations were issued in the incident.
