JACKSON TOWNSHIP, NJ – Another violent carjacking has taken place in this once-sleepy community of Jackson. After stealing a car in Jackson and beating his victim, the carjacker fled to nearby Lakewood where he was chased by a group of Orthodox Jewish men, one carrying what appeared to be a 2×4. Police reported the suspect assaulted one of the men, before the others chased the man through a parking lot as police arrived.

The Jackson Police Department issued the following statement:

On Monday, December 13, 2021 at 9:51 am, Police Officers Thomas Conti and Matthew Cilento responded to the Lukoil Gas Station located on West Countyline Road on the report of a carjacking that had just taken place.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with a 57-year-old female who reported that her 1999 Dodge Pickup had been stolen by a male subject who had punched her in the face. It was reported by the victim that she had been standing outside of her vehicle when she observed a black male wearing a hooded flannel shirt get into the driver’s seat of the vehicle. She opened the door to see what he was doing when he struck her in the face and drove off with the vehicle.

A description of the suspect was shared and a short while later while checking the length of West Countyline Road into Lakewood, Police Officer Kevin Chesney was checking a plaza parking lot when he observed the stolen vehicle and then the suspect running through the parking lot being chased by several people, one of which appeared to be bleeding from the face. Officer Chesney then pursued the suspect on foot and took him into custody, holding him at gunpoint until other officers arrived.

During this time, the unidentified people who had been chasing him claimed that the suspect had assaulted them. The suspect was taken into custody and Lakewood Police Officers arrived on the scene to attend to the reported assault victims.

Arrested:

Kevin Breaux, age 40 of Jackson NJ. He was charged with carjacking, processed and later transported to the Ocean County Jail where transporting officers reported that he became combative with jail staff upon his arrival.
