Bee County Jail Escapee Apprehended by CBP Officers at Progreso Port of Entry

PROGRESO, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Field Operations officers working an outbound operation at the Progreso International Bridge apprehended a man who escaped from the Bee County Jail on January 15, 2022 and was attempting to flee the country on foot.

“This is a significant arrest as it underscores the public safety impact of our border security mission,” said Port Director Walter Weaver, Progreso Port of Entry. An arrest of this magnitude illustrates the vital role CBP plays in protecting our country and our communities.”

The fugitive apprehension occurred on Friday, Jan. 21 at the Progreso International Bridge. CBP officers working southbound operations encountered a male individual who matched the description of a man wanted for Escape out of the Bee County Sheriff’s Office and Parole Violation (original charge: aggravated assault with serious bodily injury) out of the Austin Parole Board in Austin, Texas.

In secondary, CBP officers conducted a biometric fingerprint check and utilizing national law enforcement databases confirmed the identity of the subject as 40-year-old Steven Guajardo Servantes a United States citizen wanted by the Bee County Sheriff’s Office and the Austin Parole Board.

CBP officers turned Servantes over to the custody of United States Marshals for adjudication of the warrants. Charges and allegations contained in criminal complaints are merely accusations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
