U.S. Marshals Task Force Arrests Murder Suspect

Memphis, TN
– U.S. Marshal Tyreece Miller announces the arrest
of Darius Thomas for Murder out of the state of Indiana.

On
February 5, 2021 Shamar Barnes was shot to death in Elkhart, Indiana. A
warrant was issued for the arrest of Darius Thomas for this crime.

Working with the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task
Force, investigators with the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive
Task Force developed information that Thomas was in the Memphis area.


The fugitive was tracked to a motel near 240 and Lamar avenue.
The Gulf Coast Task Force and the Shelby County Fugitive Apprehension
Team located the fugitive in a room there and took him into custody
without incident.

“The U.S. Marshals work hard to help make sure
Memphis is not considered a safe haven for violent fugitives,” said U.S.
Marshal Tyreece Miller.

The U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional
Fugitive Task Force is a multi-agency task force with divisions in
Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. The Western Tennessee
Division of the GCRFTF has offices in Memphis and Jackson, and its
membership is primarily composed of Deputy U.S. Marshals, Shelby County
Sheriff’s Deputies, Memphis Police Officers, Fayette County Sheriff’s
Deputies, Jackson Police Officers, and the Tennessee Department of
Corrections Special Agents. Theprimary mission of the Task Force is to
arrest violent offenders and sexual predators.
