BUFFALO, N.Y. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Port of Buffalo seized another firearm in a vehicle that was encountered at the Peace Bridge.
Yesterday, CBP officers encountered a passenger vehicle driven by Jaylen M. Paredes, a 24-year-old United States citizen. The driver was destined to Niagara Falls, New York and made a wrong turn onto the Peace Bridge heading towards Canada. During his inspection with a Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officer, a loaded Canik TP9SA 9mm handgun was discovered. CBSA then refused Paredes entrance into Canada and returned him to the U.S. where he was escorted to secondary for further inspection.

During the secondary examination, it was determined that Paredes, a resident of Indianapolis, Indiana, unlawfully possessed the firearm.
“Our officers continue to remain vigilant, and enforcement focused, removing another illegally possessed firearm from our community,” said Acting Port Director John Madsen. “A great job by our officers working alongside our law enforcement partners.”
Paredes was taken into custody and subsequently processed by CBP officers. After processing, the firearm and driver were turned over to the New York State Police to face felony charges of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree. Paredes was then lodged at Buffalo Police Department central booking.
