SCHENECTADY, NY – A 17-year-old student who was reportedly unauthorized to be on school property was arrested after he brought an imitation Glock handgun into Schenectady High School on Wednesday.

According to police, shortly after 2 P.M., Schenectady High School staff were alerted to a male inside the building wearing a ski mask, sunglasses, gloves, a hood, and carrying a small side bag who was refusing to identify himself.

“Staff approached the male to speak with him. The individual provided staff with a false name and refused to take off his mask. As he walked away, school staff began to follow him,” police said. “The Schenectady High School Community Engagement Officers assisted in an attempt to identify the male. He exited the school and began to cross an exterior field, discarded the bag, before jumping a fence.”

The Schenectady County Police Department said the officers were able to stop and identify the male.

“While speaking with the male, school staff approached the officers with the discarded bag, which contained a black Glock imitation handgun inside,” investigators said. “The male was then detained and transported to the Schenectady Police Youth Aid Bureau for further investigation.”

Due to his being a minor, the identity of the offender was not released by local authorities.
