RGV Agents Encounter Several Large Groups

US Border Patrol

EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol (RGV) agents encountered six large groups in Starr County resulting in 1,029 arrests.

Over the past several days, Rio Grande City Border Patrol Station (RGC) agents encountered six large groups in La Grulla, Rio Grande City, and Roma.

The groups were comprised of 406 single adults, 322 family members, and 301 unaccompanied children. The migrants are from Cuba, Romania, and various Central and South American countries.

RGV agents have encountered more than 50 large groups illegally entering the United States since October 2021, resulting in almost 9,000 migrant apprehensions. The logistics required to transport and process groups of this size continue to place a strain on manpower and resources, as often they are encountered in desolate areas often inaccessible to large transport vehicles.  A group of more than 100 migrants is considered a large group.
