EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, NJ – Spruce Avenue was closed for a while on Friday after a dump track carrying a full load of sand overturned. The roadway was reopened after the crash scene was cleaned up, including the dispatch of a HAZMAT team for vehicle fluids.

According to police here, a fully-loaded 2000 tri-axle Mac Truck, owned by Colonial Lawn Care; and operated by Joe R. Humphers, 55 years of age from Egg Harbor Township, was traveling northbound on Spruce Ave. in the area of the S curve when he left his lane of travel, went into the southbound lane and lost control of the vehicle.

“The vehicle rotated clockwise, high sided, and rolled onto the driver’s side. The truck continued to slide on its side before coming to rest against the southbound guardrail. A full load of sand was dumped all over the roadway,” EHT police said. “Mr. Humpers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Mainland Hospital via ambulance to be treated.”

EHT Volunteer Firefighters from the Bargaintown and Cardiff stations responded along with Atlantic County HAZMAT as a precaution for fluids leaking from the overturned vehicle.
