Utica Police Arrest Gunman Involved in Recent Shooting

UTICA, NY – A 27-year-old man was arrested and charged with attempted assault and multiple criminal weapons possession charges for a shooting in Utica on Sunday.

According to police, on Sunday, at approximately 11:15 PM, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Jason Street and Whitesboro Street regarding a shots fired investigation.

β€œUpon arrival they were met by parties who stated that an argument had just ensued near the intersection and as the argument escalated a male whom they were familiar with brandished a handgun and fired several shots in their direction. The officers also located several spent shell casings in the area described,” the Utica Police Department reported.


According to police reports, the victims were also able to provide identifying information about the suspect, and on August 1st, officers with the GIVE Unit and Patrol Division attempted to locate him.

β€œAt approximately 5:30PM they noticed the male on the 1400 block of Whitesboro St and attempted to stop him, however the male fled. As the party was fleeing they noticed that he was in possession of a handgun, and a short distance away the officers were able to catch the male and take him into custody. Upon doing so they removed a loaded 9mm handgun from the front area of his pants,” police reported.

Richard Hendricks age 27 of Utica, was arrested and charged.
