Wicomico County Man Died, Woman Injured in House Fire

WICOMICO COUNTY, MD – Fire inspectors continue their investigation of a fire the took place at home in Wicomico County that claimed the life of one person.

According to police, Deputy State Fire Marshals continue to investigate the cause of a late afternoon fire that claimed the life of a Wicomico County man on Monday.

“Just before 4:30 pm, firefighters from the Parsonsburg Volunteer Fire Company and surrounding fire departments were dispatched to 32733 Johnson Road in Salisbury for a fire in a one-story single-family dwelling after being reported by a neighbor,” police said. “Upon the arrival of the fire department, they encountered severe fire conditions throughout the entire structure. They were able to bring the two-alarm blaze under control in one hour. A female occupant escaped the home and was later assisted away from the structure by bystanders.”


Police said the woman suffered significant burns and was flown to Bayview Burn Center in Baltimore by Maryland State Police aviation.

“A second male victim was found by firefighters deceased in the home. His remains were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for positive identification and the exact cause of death,” investigators reported.

The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation. Bystanders did not report hearing smoke alarms in the home prior to the arrival of the fire department. Damages are estimated to be $225,000.00.
