PHILADELPHIA (PRESS RELEASE) – Following a six-day trial, a jury found Abdullah I. El-Amin (DOB: guilty of Third Degree Murder and Possession of an Instrument of Crime for the fatal shooting of Tracy “Mia” Green in 2020.

Assistant District Attorney Helen Park successfully argued that El-Amin shot Green several times at close range while in his car as a passenger. Green’s murder was among a record number of killings of transgender or gender non-conforming people recorded by the Human Rights Campaign in 2020.

“I want to thank ADA Helen Park for skillfully prosecuting this case and ensuring that this defendant will be held accountable for his violent actions. I also thank Kelly Burkhardt of our Victim/Witness Services Unit and LBGTQ+ Advisory Committee for providing loving and respectful support to Mia Green’s bereaved family members over the past two years,” District Attorney Larry Krasner said. “Too often, violence against LGBTQ+ people, and Black trans women like Mia Green in particular, happens in the shadows because of societal marginalization. I’m gratified that the Philadelphia criminal legal system increasingly reflects Philadelphians’ values of inclusion, and our city’s abhorrence of discrimination and bigotry.”
