SYRACUSE, NY – A 16-year-old boy was arrested in Syracuse after attempting to flee police with a loaded gun, police said on Monday.

At approximately 1:04 p.m. on Tuesday, November 15th, Syracuse Police officers responded to East Brighton Avenue at Rock Cut Road for a report of a suspicious person with a weapon. He was described as a black male in his 20s, wearing a gray hoodie, black pants, and a black ski mask.

A male matching the description was located in the 200 block of Atlantic Avenue by officer Linnertz. The officer asked the man to stop, but he refused, stating that he was a juvenile, and that he would only speak with officers at home. Officers attempted to stop the juvenile, but he took off running, eventually entering a residence on Valley Drive.

The homeowner gave consent for officers to search the home for the suspect and any possible weapons. The officers began searching the residence, where they found the 16-year-old male who had led them on a chase in a bedroom in the attic. Additionally, officers discovered a handgun in the attic on the opposite side of the house. An extended high capacity magazine was loaded with 21 additional rounds in addition to a round in the chamber of the handgun.

He was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Firearm. Officers discovered the juvenile also had multiple other arrest warrants for him, including one from the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office for Burglary in the Second Degree and one from the New York State Police for Robbery in the First Degree.
