BUFFALO, NY – Dequinn Saunders, 27, of Buffalo was arraigned yesterday morning before Tonawanda Town Court Justice Daniel T. Cavarello on one count of Failure to Safely Store Firearms in the First Degree (Class “A” misdemeanor).

According to the complaint, the defendant left his legally-owned, loaded handgun underneath the front passenger seat of a rental car on or about October 7, 2022. He allegedly returned the car to the rental agency on Sheridan Drive in Tonawanda before getting his gun.

He’s accused of leaving his personal, loaded weapon outside of his immediate possession while off-duty as a Buffalo Police Department officer at the time of the alleged incident.

Saunders will return on Monday, December 5, 2022 for further proceedings. The charge doesn’t qualify for bail, so he was released on his own recognizance.
