SILVER SPRING, MD – The Maryland Lottery has announced a third tier winning lottery ticket has been claimed from a drawing earlier this month.

She didn’t win the jackpot, but a Silver Spring mom was happy after winning $50,000 in the January 2nd Powerball drawing.

According to the Maryland Lottery, the 58-year-old was shopping at Giant #327, which is located at 7142 Arlington Road in Bethesda, when she remembered to play her numbers.

“She’s played a special set of numbers for years and made sure to get a ticket for the Jan. 2 drawing. The big winner played four lines of numbers for $8,” a representative with the lottery said today.

The program assistant and her husband claimed the prize on Jan. 20 at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. The parents of two children shared with Lottery officials that they plan to use the winnings toward bills and college tuition.
