PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office has ruled an off-duty female FBI agent who shot and killed a pitbull in Center City won’t be charged.

After a complete review and investigation, the D.A.’s office ruled that off-duty FBI agent Jacqueline Maguire was sitting on a bench when the dog attacked her and acted in self-defense. Maguire discharged her service weapon, killing the dog.

The shooting occurred around 8p in the 1500 block of Spruce Street in Center City, near the Touraine apartment building.

The shooting of the dog, named Mia, led to a protest outside FBI offices in Philadelphia the following day.

Special Agent In Charge Jacqueline Maguire is the city’s top FBI agent. She was promoted in 2021. Maguire was assigned to the New York Field Office when she joined the FBI as a special agent in 2000 and was a member of the Joint Terrorism Task Force. She was the lead agent for the investigation of the five hijackers of American Airlines Flight 77 after the 9/11 terror attacks.

Prior to becoming the special agent in charge in Philadelphia, she was promoted in 2019 to special agent in charge of the Criminal Division of the New York Field Office.

The District Attorney’s office considers the case closed at this time.
