Middletown Man Pleads Guilty to Murder in Connection with Fatal Stabbing

MIDDLETOWN, NY – Yesterday, a 24-year-old Middletown resident, Damante T. Stansberry, pleaded guilty to Murder in the Second Degree on March 30, 2023, in connection with the death of a Wallkill man. The victim was found stabbed multiple times inside the detached garage of his Town of Wallkill residence while repairing a fence in his backyard. Stansberry is scheduled to appear in court for sentencing on June 12, 2023.

The investigation, which began on October 30, 2022, was led by the Town of Wallkill Police Department and assisted by multiple law enforcement agencies, including the New York State Police, the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the Hudson Valley Crime Analysis Center, and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. Stansberry was arrested on November 1, 2022, following the collaborative effort of these agencies.

District Attorney David M. Hoovler praised the agencies involved for their relentless efforts in apprehending Stansberry and expressed his condolences to the victim’s family, acknowledging the tragic loss they have suffered.
