Wild police chase of stolen military 5-ton vehicle ends in Baltimore after multiple crashes

BALTIMORE, MD – Harford County Sheriff’s Office deputies pursued a stolen military vehicle through multiple jurisdictions before finally apprehending the suspect.

The incident occurred on May 12, when a privately-owned 1986 923-A 5-ton military vehicle was reported stolen from a residence in Bel Air.

The vehicle was spotted entering the Town of Bel Air before making its way down Rt. 24 and onto I95. Law enforcement officers from the Southern Precinct, Special Operations Division, and allied agencies pursued the vehicle down the interstate, making multiple attempts to disable it with stop sticks before the suspect, identified as Michael D. Stevens II, 38 from Abingdon, was apprehended on Conkling Street in Baltimore City.


Stevens had just been released from the Harford County Detention Center before stealing the vehicle. He faces charges of motor vehicle theft, two counts of 1st degree assault, two counts of 2nd degree assault, and failing to obey a lawful order. He is currently being held without bond.

During the pursuit, Stevens crashed into multiple civilian vehicles. Anyone who was a victim in one of these crashes is urged to call the Southern Precinct at 410-612-1717 to make a report.
