MIDDLETOWN, NY – On Wednesday, Wayne Lewis, a 36-year-old resident of Middletown, pleaded guilty to Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree in Orange County Court. Lewis is expected to be sentenced to a term of 12 years to life imprisonment when he appears before Judge Craig Stephen Brown on June 26, 2023.
Documents filed in court allege that on December 21, 2022, Lewis and another individual were captured on surveillance video near Park Circle in the City of Middletown.
The footage showed Lewis handing a firearm to the co-defendant who then shot another man, resulting in non-fatal injuries. Further investigation connected Lewis to the incident, leading to his arrest.
At his plea hearing, Lewis acknowledged that he attempted to possess the loaded firearm used in the shooting.
His prior criminal record includes two violent felony convictions, which make him eligible for a mandatory prison sentence, the maximum term of which could be life imprisonment.
