MECHANICSVILLE, MD – Kimberly Shaw, a local banker from St. Mary’s County, is celebrating a big win after scoring a $50,000 prize playing the $30 Cash is King scratch-off game. Shaw and her husband, Colby, were enjoying a fun evening playing games at the Moose Lodge #495 in Mechanicsville when luck struck.

During their time at the lodge on Tuesday evening, Shaw purchased a $20 FAST PLAY ticket from the Lottery Vending Machine and won $40. Feeling fortunate, she used the $40 to buy another FAST PLAY ticket and a scratch-off game. To her delight, she cashed in $90. Now faced with a decision, she pondered whether to keep the $90 or use it to play more games.

“I said to myself, ‘who puts $90 in a Lottery machine?'” Shaw recalled. “But, I did anyway, asking my husband what should I play.”

Colby advised her to get a $30 game and mix up the rest. Following his suggestion, Shaw bought a variety of games, including a $30 Cash is King scratch-off. As she scratched off the ticket right at the lodge, her excitement grew.

“The first number I scratched was a match for $5,000,” Shaw shared. “My heart sunk, and I held the ticket to my chest.”

She whispered to her husband that she had won $5,000. However, there was more to uncover. Shaw revealed another $5,000 and a symbol indicating a $10,000 win, totaling $20,000. Initially thinking it was a joke, she continued scratching. It was at that moment Colby took the ticket to scan it and confirmed that it wasn’t a $20,000 win but a staggering $50,000.

“I had to scan it twice,” Colby exclaimed. “I thought there’s no way.”

The couple realized the magnitude of their win when the bartender at the lodge mentioned that it was too much to cash there. Shaw signed the back of the ticket, and they discreetly left the lodge to head home.

Shaw immediately called her two teenage children, who were on vacation with their grandmother, to share the incredible news. At first, they believed it was a joke, but one of her children reminded her about her recent birthday, dropping a hint about the unexpected windfall.

Without delay, Shaw and Colby claimed their $50,000 prize at Lottery Headquarters the following day. When asked about their plans for the winnings, Shaw stated that she has no immediate plans in mind.

The $30 Cash is King scratch-off, introduced in September of the previous year, offers a top prize of $2 million. While two of the top prizes remain unclaimed, there are still three $50,000 prizes and four $10,000 prizes available, along with numerous other prizes ranging from $30 to $5,000.
