Lucky Lottery Winner Turns $1 into $50k

OXON HILL, MD – A lifetime Lottery enthusiast from Oxon Hill has struck gold with a $50,000 win in the Pick 5 July 23 midday drawing, thanks to her belief in love, faith, and family, along with her husband’s lucky number suggestion.

Preferring to remain anonymous, the winner chose the nickname “Sandy Cakes” to share her remarkable story. As a dedicated player, she had a list of numbers that held special significance to her, including birthdays and license plate numbers of her loved ones. This method had brought her several smaller wins in the past. However, the biggest win of her life came when she decided to play the date of her wedding anniversary for the midday Pick 5 number.

“I was so excited when I realized I won! I thought I won $5,000 but when I showed my husband, he scanned it (the ticket) on the Lottery app and told me it was $50,000. I was in shock,” shared the jubilant “Sandy Cakes.” Overwhelmed by the magnitude of her win, she immediately asked her son to take her to the store to confirm the news. The Prince George’s County resident scanned the lucky ticket, and the incredible victory was indeed confirmed.

The extraordinary win left “Sandy Cakes” almost overwhelmed, describing that she “almost had a nervous breakdown” as she had never experienced such a significant win before. When asked about her plans for the newfound fortune, she expressed her desire to spoil her husband, a Vietnam veteran, as he had spoiled her for many years. Additionally, she plans to make some home renovations, save the remaining amount, and extend her support to family members.

The winning ticket was purchased at Esquire Liquors, located at 6108 Oxon Hill Road in Prince George’s County, and for their role in this life-changing win, the Oxon Hill store will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
