Police Reveal More Details About Morning Crash That Killed Three in Jersey City

Authorities in Hudson County are delving into the details of a multi-fatal car crash that occurred in the early hours of Monday, October 16, 2023, in Jersey City. Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced that the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit is leading the investigation.

The incident unfolded around 12:45 a.m. when Jersey City Police were alerted to a two-car collision on Paterson Plank Road, just south of Congress Street. Officers who arrived on the scene discovered a BMW SUV had crashed head-on with a Kia sedan.

The driver of the Kia, identified as 26-year-old Dylan Weidenfeld of Jersey City, was pronounced dead at the scene.


According to the information released by Prosecutor Suarez, the BMW had five occupants. A female backseat passenger and a male backseat passenger were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Their identities are currently withheld, pending notification of next of kin. A third backseat passenger, a 19-year-old female, is in critical condition at Jersey City Medical Center. Additionally, the 23-year-old male driver and the 23-year-old female front seat passenger of the BMW, both from Jersey City, sustained injuries but are not in life-threatening condition.

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit is actively working on the case, with support from the Jersey City Police Department. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the incident to contact the Office of the Hudson County Prosecutor at 201-915-1345 or to leave an anonymous tip on their website. “All information will be kept confidential,” assures the Hudson County Prosecutor’s office.
