TEXAS CITY, TX — A 76-year-old woman was shot multiple times and killed in her home, and authorities have now arrested her daughter in connection with the crime. Irene “AnNee” Gray was found dead near the College of the Mainland in Texas City, Galveston County. One week after the incident, police arrested Sherene Lavett Washington-Harper, 54, on a murder warrant.

Police initially responded to the residence on North Amburn Road due to a “welfare concern.”

They found Gray with “injuries consistent with gunshot wounds” and subsequently pronounced her dead, according to a press release by the Texas City Police Department.

Washington-Harper was identified as the alleged shooter and taken into custody without further incident.

Authorities have not yet disclosed a motive for the killing, and the investigation remains ongoing.
