Bloody Trail Leads Police to Head of Woman in Trash Can, Killed by Her Daughter

EL MONTE, CA — A woman allegedly stabbed and decapitated her mother in El Monte, California, near Los Angeles, setting off a criminal investigation that has sent shockwaves through the community.

Kimberly M. Gonzalez, 25, faces charges of murder and assault with a deadly weapon in the death of her mother, Jacqueline Perez.

Around 5 p.m. on Sunday, El Monte police responded to reports of a stabbing at a residential home, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office. Upon arrival, officers found a victim with multiple stab wounds. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.


Shortly after, an El Monte police sergeant found Gonzalez outside the home covered in blood. Authorities took her into custody without further incident. Investigators later recovered an object believed to be the murder weapon, though details were not disclosed.

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced the charges on Tuesday. “My heart goes out to the family and loved ones who have been shattered by this unimaginable tragedy,” Gascón said in a statement. “This was an extraordinarily violent act which has had a profound impact on our community. We are fully committed to seeking justice on behalf of the victim and our dedicated team will work tirelessly to bring clarity and closure to this heartbreaking case.”

The investigation continues, and authorities have yet to release further details. The violent incident has prompted discussions about family violence and mental health support within the community.
