BUFFALO, NY – A 17-year-old male from Buffalo was sentenced on Monday to a split sentence of six months in jail followed by three years of probation. The sentencing occurred before Youth Part Judge Brenda Freedman, as the teenager was adjudicated as a youthful offender.
The incident dates back to Tuesday, April 25, when the adolescent, a student at Academy School #131 in Buffalo, was found with a disassembled handgun in his backpack by a school security officer. This discovery was made as he entered the school building on St. Lawrence Avenue and passed through the weapon detection system.
Following the confiscation of the weapon, the adolescent fled, leading to a brief lockdown of the school and immediate police notification. The Buffalo Police Department took the “ghost gun” into evidence.
On Friday, September 29, the adolescent pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree.
Additionally, he admitted guilt to Attempted Assault in the Second Degree, for an assault committed while at the Erie County Youth Services Center. On June 21, he attacked another individual at the center, resulting in injuries treated at ECMC.
