BARNEGAT, NJ – Michael Mulgrew, 34, of Barnegat, will remain in the Ocean County Jail until his trial, as Honorable Guy P. Ryan, P.J.Cr.P., ordered on November 27, 2023. The Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced the decision regarding Mulgrew’s charges, which include murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

These charges relate to the November 2, stabbing deaths of Mulgrew’s parents, Eugene Mulgrew, 71, and Cheryl Mulgrew, 69, in Barnegat. Mulgrew has been in custody since his apprehension on the day of the incident. Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Mara Brater managed the detention hearing.

The public and press are reminded that these charges are accusations, and Mulgrew is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. This case underscores the gravity of violent crimes within family settings and the legal system’s role in addressing such incidents.
