TRENTON, NJ – In a major development for the technology sector in New Jersey, Governor Phil Murphy, alongside Princeton University President Christopher Eisgruber, announced the establishment of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) hub in partnership with the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA). This initiative is set to position New Jersey as a frontrunner in AI innovation and technology.

The new AI hub, fueled by state funding and private sector collaborations, aims to propel New Jersey to the forefront of AI technology. It will foster job growth, stimulate economic development, and guide public entities in AI integration. This move highlights the Murphy Administration’s commitment to innovation and aligns with New Jersey’s strategic focus on future technologies.

Governor Murphy emphasized New Jersey’s leading role in embracing advanced technologies, citing the state’s collaboration with Princeton University as pivotal. The partnership is expected to generate economic activity and create high-paying jobs, leveraging Princeton’s reputation as a global AI leader.

President Eisgruber acknowledged Princeton’s strategic vision for AI, recognizing its societal implications and the university’s capacity to address these challenges. The establishment of the AI hub will amplify Princeton’s endeavors in research and education in this critical domain.

The initiative will serve as a convergence point for AI researchers, industry leaders, start-ups, and other stakeholders, promoting research, ethical AI development, and workforce training. This collaborative environment will include accelerator spaces and engage with other educational institutions in New Jersey.

The hub will harness Princeton’s strengths in AI technology, policy, and interdisciplinary research, as well as New Jersey’s robust sectors like health, sustainability, finance, and technology. These combined strengths present a unique opportunity to apply AI in groundbreaking ways.

Tim Sullivan, CEO of the NJEDA, lauded the announcement as a testament to New Jersey’s ambition to lead in AI-driven innovation and job creation. He highlighted Governor Murphy’s focus on recapturing New Jersey’s innovation leadership and the positive response from world-renowned institutions.

The AI convening at Princeton University, scheduled for April 11, will further these objectives, establishing New Jersey and Princeton University as pivotal players in the global AI landscape.
