Delaware Road Rage Shooting Suspect Identified as Philadelphia Man, Arrested

WILMINGTON, DE – Delaware State Police have identified 21-year-old Nasir Simmons of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as the suspect in a road rage shooting incident that took place on I-495 in Wilmington.

The event unfolded on December 28, 2023, at around 9:19 a.m. Troopers were called to I-495 northbound, south of Philadelphia Pike, following a report of a shooting stemming from road rage. During the investigation, it was found that a red Honda Accord, carrying a 32-year-old man and a 2-month-old baby, was hit by gunfire from a burgundy passenger vehicle. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported as the Honda safely pulled over onto the shoulder while the suspect’s vehicle fled the scene.

Detectives from Troop 2 Criminal Investigations used various investigative methods to track down the suspect vehicle, identified as a maroon Hyundai Sonata with Pennsylvania registration. This led to the identification of Nasir Simmons as the suspect. On the evening of December 28, Simmons was located and apprehended by the Philadelphia Police Department, along with the Hyundai.


Simmons is set to be extradited to Delaware, where he will face charges including one felony count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony and two felony counts of Reckless Endangerment First Degree. The swift response and cooperation between state police and local law enforcement led to the successful identification and arrest of the suspect.
